Did my 600 hr service today.
(My BX23 is supposed to get the hydro oil and filt changed ea 300 hr.)
For the last, maybe 50-100 hrs I've been thinking the hydro seemed to be whining louder than I thought I remembered it did when new. I poo poo'd that thought.
Imediately after the service, I noticed a marked reduction in the hydro whine ... close to night and day ... maybe, dusk to high noon.
Not sure what to think. I didn't notice any diff at the 300 hr service. But, I did work her a lot harder the 2nd 300. No appreciable chips in the sump screen ... ever. I might feel a little more power to the wheels. Pretty subtle if true. Dunno.
Maybe I'll change the filter at 150 hrs. next time. Maybe do the whole shebang at 200 hrs. ...
Cheers!

Maybe was a little low on fluid. You would have topped it off when you refilled.

Similar to power steering whine when low in a car...

Brew...I noticed a reasonable reduction when I went from UDT to SUDT. Did you happen to change oils (specs/brand)?

DD, You have a point, though I'm pretty sure I checked it when I found the whine to be more noisy. Also, I usually got jerky feedback in the steering wheel when PS fluid low in car.

Jim, no change in oil ... Kubota SUDT.

Most likely the filter was starting to get plugged. Not uncommon to have the filter start to plug up prior to the recommended service interval.

Thanks for confirming one of my thoughts. Sounds like you have experience with this. Would you recommend changing filters at the 1/2 way mark of fluid change?

Cheers!

I happened to have my new tractor in the dealer for other issues while it was making the louder "whinning" noise. The service person told me that it will do that when the filter is getting plugged up. He said to change it. This was just before the initial 50hr oil and fluid service, but I also transfered all my equipment to the new tractor during this time. I think some of the issues was with all the cylinders I was hooking up to the new system. All the years I have had these smaller tractors with the hydro tranny's, this is the first time I experienced the "whine". From now on, I will go by the book's service interval, or when the "whine" is pronounced, which ever comes first. IMO, a couple extra filter changes and a few gallons of fluid is cheaper than a system rebuild and the down time that goes with it.

... From now on said:
Yep! Now at 800 hrs. The pronounced whine started at maybe 775. I just put a new filter in and the whine is back to normal. So I'll plan on a new filter at 150-200 hrs. With system all sealed up, I only lost about a cup of fluid (plus the filter volume).

Thanks to all for helpful replys to this.

Cheers!

The service chart for my L2800 recomends fluid change every 400 hours but filter change every 200 hours. My problem is the amount of fluid I loose when I pull the filter off, when I last serviced the tractor I drained 5 gallons of fluid by just pulling the hydraulic filter. No loss when I changed the HST filter.

Oh, you have 2 filters. I just have 1 for everything. I kindof decided today to go another 200 hrs for the hydro oil change (my normal interval is 300hrs).
Thanks for the info.
