On my new to me 855. Today I changed oil and filter. Fuel filter. air filter. New hydro filter and re used hydro oil per dealer recommendation if it was still a clearish carmel color,which it was. I removed the suction screen and by the seam just a little bit of metal particals. I mean very little. I strained the oil replaced
Should I have a concern with a little metal ? Again the total amount was like a tap on pepper shaker
Keep in mind 1988 JD 855 with 1200 hours

That is what the screen is for. If there were no metal particles to filter there would be no need for the screen.

Nope... all sounds OK. Most likely, and fortunately for you; the previous owner was diligent with following the maintainence schedule.
