Just changed Hydro fluid in my 2135. I didn't realize until I completed the change  that the fluid the dealer sold me is 737-3054. The manual calls for 737-3025. Is this an issue?

That should be the correct fluid. I beleive that 737-3025 is a Case part number.

You did receive the right drive oil. The part number changes and they gave you some of the old part number oil.

Sorry guys, my first post is incorrect. I reversed the part numbers.

737-3054 was the original hydro fluid (labelled "Drive System Oil").
737-3025 is what I just put in the transmission.

The 737-3054 oil was only $10.25/gallon (still have the price tag on my old container, which has the old oil in it). Oh well...

The 737-3025 hydraulic/transmission fluid(has red stripe on label) is NOT the oil recommended to use in a 2000 series. The 2000 series need the Drive System Oil (blue/yellow stripe on label). These two oils are not compatible to mix with each other.

This is an interesting question....

I have a Cub Cadet 1864, and ordered some maint items for it yesterday, including hydro oil.

The Cub part numbers don't pan out any longer. What they are sending me is called "HyTrans" or something like that.

Does this sound right?

That's Hy-Tran and is a reddish colored oil that was used in the older hydrostatic drives. The newer ones call for Drive System Plus, which is a synthetic oil and around $35 a gallon

I have a CC GT 2544 and it calls for 737-3120 trans fluid. It costs roughly $8 a qt.

Hey Brian,
I also have a 1998 HDS 2135 Cub. Penzoil, mult-vis 20W-50 is same exact fluid. Fram also makes a transmission filter but I forget the #, I changed mine about a year ago.
Good Luck!

There's tons of posts on transaxle oil for the hydrostatic 2K series machines. I'm not sure when CC made the switch-over to the expensive "Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus" for the 2K series, but I'm thinking it was about 3yrs ago. Like bermuda_ken says, the red stuff was never spec'd for the 2000 series. Even at $8/qt you almost never need to change the stuff. They hold ~6qts and the stuff looks as clear as cooking oil with hundreds of hours on it. I use the WIX equivelant of the CC hydraulic filter, but it looks just like a white version of the CC filter. Like you'll see hashed out in many other posts on this topic, I bet these transaxles would do fine with a synthetic 15w-40 or 20w-50, but why risk the warranty?
