I picked up a Cosmo 3pt hitch, pto, cement mixer a while back. Previous owner cut the pto shaft real short and I will need to replace it. Now I am wondering if it could be driven with a hydraulic motor using the tractor hydraulics which would then allow it to be mounted on the front loader. Started looking at hyd. motors in Surplus Center and not being a hydraulics expert I find that quite confusing! I bet someone out there knows the answer! Thank you. Bob

Which tractor are you looking at using? Can you post a picture of the mixer?
Looks like most mixers are ~20RPM, so that is the speed you want on the drum itself.

Thanks

If you have about 10 GPM and can drive the mixer directly at about 100 rpm, you will need a hyd motor with a displacement of about 20 cu in. Less GPM, less speed.

If you use a 3 cu in motor and reduce the speed to about 70 rpm, using a 10 to 1 ratio you can use a 3 cu in hyd motor.

10 GPM into a 3 cu in motor will run it at 770 rpm. To high for a mixer, therefore the 10 to 1 ratio.

By changing the engine rpm, your pump will produce different GPM's.

28537[2].jpgThanks Aaron and J.J. It looks like the Operators manual on the NH TL80a says the flow rate can be turned down to a min. of 10 l/min. from 51. I don't know what the output on the Ford 4000 is but as you said JJ both tractors can be and would be idled way down. The mixer has a 10 to 1 reduction ratio built into it if I were to hook up to the PTO connection shaft.

Thank you
Bob

At 150 pounds per cubic foot of concrete, 8 cubic feet will weigh 1200 pounds. Plus the weight of the mixer and overhang. Will your FEL handle that much weight?

Yep, 2400lbs. to max. height - 31.5 inches forward of the pivot pin. Good thought though - might want the big back blade or some other heavy 3 pt. ballast on.
