Hi All

I am new to the forum and been doing some great reading on here.

I am hoping for some advice on hydraulic wheel motors.
I am currently in the design stage od making my own mini skid steer loader you stand on the back of very similar to the toro 220 or Dingo machines.

My plane is to use a Honda 16hp motor coupled to a 12cc hydraulic pump with a system pressure of 3000 psi.
My question is I would like to run 4 individual wheel motors to power the loader but have no idea what size motors I should buy.
I only plan to use the loader myself with only a 3ft bucket on it, so the hydraulics will only be driving the wheel motors, 2 x 2' lift rams and 1 x 2' bucket tilt ram.

Could someone please shed some light if Ii may need 100cc motors or 500cc motors. With these motors being on the expensive side Ionly want to buy them once.

Thanks in advance.

At 3000 psi, your 16 HP engine can pump 8.5 GPM.

You need a .55 cu in pump for that to happen. .

Will you drive the hyd motors directly or chain driven?

What size tires?

Reservoir size about 12 to 16 gal.

Four spool valve. Lift, bucket, and drive, left steer and right steer spools.

How fast in mph?

What speed on the hyd motors.

You could get a VSP transmission like a ZERO turn. Valve is built in the pump.

Real skid steers only use one motor per side and chain drive both wheels. I think you will have a hard time keeping both wheels turning equal with two motors per side.

I was planning to drive the wheels directly from the pump.
Tyres are 16 inch
Reservoir size is 12.5 gallons
Yes 4 spool valve
Looking at 4mph max

The latest Dingo loaders use 4 motors with direct drive and have a balance valve on each side

If I were to use only 1 motor per side and chain drive the other wheel what would be an acceptable size for the drive motors.

Hey Nox, did you make any progress on this project? I've been thinking along the same lines (homebuilt dingo-sized loader) and trying to decide what kind of drive setup makes the most sense. The early model dingos used a motor coupled directly to one wheel on each side with a sprocket on the hub chain driving the other wheel on that side. I may try something similar, but I'm not sure how to size the motors either.

He probably found out you won't get much motoring done with a 8.5GPM pump. Especially running two motors.

I think there's a lot more to it. You need to figure out what RPM you want and how much torque you require. Then you have match a pump to the wheel motors to get the proper torque. Do you want dual path hydrostatic drive with an aux. pump? No sense having the wheel motors stall as soon as you put a load on them. There's reason's these things are expensive.
