Hydraulic Top Link

But how are the top links controlled?

Generally there's a lever someplace. I can't speak for anyone else, but I put my lever to the right of the seat facing backwards. This makes it easier to control when I'm off the tractor but I can still get to it from the seat if I need to. If you go for a sidelink you may want a joystick instead of just a lever - that way a single control can change the toplink length and the sidelink.

I don't like where all this sidelink talk is headed, but my wife and wallet don't like it even more!

This is prolly a stupid question because I don't even have my tractor yet (tomorrow, unless some other craziness happens). But how are the top links controlled? Is there a lever back there somewhere. The blue pic (Compact1) above is the one I'm looking at. Don't get me wrong, I know I need one, and a couple of side ones too, and at least one each of all implements made

Well, the funny thing is that you don't really *need* one... but eventually you may want one anyway!

They are controlled by a rear remote set using a lever up in the cockpit! All tractors (in my humble opinion) should have at least one rear remote set. Better ones have two or three remote sets.

Sometimes they are options. Sometimes they are standard equipment. Sometimes you get one standard and then add a second one like I did. Unless you are a bush-hogger only, my opinion is that you can never have enough remote sets!

I've got 2 set's of remotes on the used machine I pick up tomorrow (cross fingers), and hydralics for the 3rd function up front...for the grapple, that I NEED. I used to say my wife was needy...now the tides are turning

Well, given all that new info... I'd say you definitely *NEED* a hydraulic top link!

I think you are right, but like you, it's going on the back burner until I get me a tractor and put some hours on it and see what else I need more.

Yep... Definitely start with Step 1: Buy a Tractor!

You maybe need to do like I do. I have a "Want List"... and a separate "Critical Needs" list. For example, if I were you, I would be putting the tractor on the "Critical Needs" list and the hydraulic top link on the "Want List"! Get the idea?

My "Critical Needs" list is down to a mere 3 items. My "Want List" has 47 items on it as we speak.

Now you know why I need to win that lottery!

You need to go out and buy a tractor right now. Then you can start putting all that stuff on too.

I control my two rear remotes with factory installed levers on the right side of the seat. The inside lever controls the 3-pt. hitch, the center lever controls the angle of my rear blade, and the outside lever controls the hydraulic top cylinder. Works good for me.

OK man, I'm having probs with my tractor buying experince. It ain't like I ain't looking and trying. And as I wait I look out here and find something else I need.

But here's a good thing about this whole ordeal. I went to the kubota dealership and almost bought a L3400...but since I had just started my search I made myself walk out. Then I bgt a used Montana 4540 off of ebay. But I then found a brand new one with warranty and everything for less money. Of course, it turned out it wasn't really less money because they screwed up on the price by 4000$. So it fell through. That tractor was to be delivered last Saturday. But I jumped right back into the search full force and found one to go get tomorrow. So I leave tomorrow morning at 5:00am est to take a 4 hr ride to get my tractor. It's a DK55 with fel and 3rd function hydralic up front. So, I NEED a grapple.

So, here's the good thing. I almost bgt a 34hp tractor, then I almost bgt 2 45hp tractors, now I'm about to buy a 55hp tractor. Each one that falls through gets me more ponies

Please, everyone, have a monent of silent prayer that nothing weird happens this time. If I get there and he says he quoted me a bad price or he decided to keep it (nothing in writing AGAIN)...I'm gonna need a grapple to break the prison rocks.
