Don't know if you know this, but there are manufactures that make chainsaw winches that will pull 8000 lbs.

Unless you tie your tractor to tree will it pull 6500 lbs?
No, but I am fabricating a 3 point skid plate to mount the winch on.

Using hydraulics you will not get any more power at the same pull speed than you will with PTO drive.
You are right. It was just a shocker when I compared the Wellenstein FX65's 75-175 ft./min. to the MileMarker H10500's 5.65-8.58 ft./min. I was hoping I would not loose that much.

Do you have front hydraulics on your tractor? Will you be using these when you have the winch in operation? Depending on where the quick disconnects are located on your B8200 could you just run some longer hoses back and use the existing tractor hydraulics?
I could take the FEL off and run hoses back. I would get 5.2 GPM @ 1420 PSI. I believe that would work for MileMarker winches.

Would potentially be a less money & work.

That would definitely cost less, be easier to figure out, but taking the FEL off would be a little more work, but not much.

There must be something wrong with this; unless you are looking for (dangerously) fast line speeds I would guess you wouldn't need more than 5hp to run a winch. The milemarkers run off of PS; PS are not 30hp. Is the hp rating just to recommend an approximate size of the tractor?

I really think it's worth it for you to install a rear remote and either build or install an off-the-shelf hyd winch (milemarker).

The Wellenstein FX65 Skidding Winch which has a line speed of 75-175 ft./min. and requires 30HP to pull 6.500 lbs., not he MileMarker Hydraulic Winches.

Now when you say rear remote, do you mean what is refered to as the Rear Hyraulic Outlet(Optional) in the Operators Manual? If it is, that is going to cost about $1,000.

Check with some of the skidder companies and see if they would sell a complete PTO winch for a reasonable cost. These are specialized winches with the correct speed and hand pulled clutches.

I did a search on PTO Winches and this is what I found.
Is this what you meant or should I keep looking?
There is no hand pulled clutch, but I could control it with the PTO Lever and Clutch on the tractor.

I could make these work.

With a 29:1 gear ratio, drum circumferece of 12.95" with an input of 540 RPM's would give me a line speed of aprox. 20 ft./min. for the first layer. That is alot better than 5-8 ft./min. from a hydraulic winch.

I still have to find out realistically what pulling force I could get with 14.5HP.

long time ago if this helps made wintch with a chev rear end....blocked off the spider gear with weld and used the other side with two disk rotors on the axcial with end bearing and the original brackes on the disk ....just pulled out the axel for free wheal ........forget the gearing but about 40 thouth on the rear end and 10 on the hydro drive and this work very well on a small timber jack I built. took down many trees with this ....didnt have money then so built with what I had....hops this gives you some ideas.....SALUT

Hi Brokensproket. I meant the major manufactures of 3-point logging winches. I was looking at the online parts catalog of a small Wallenstein, I think?, and noticed they had a part number for the entire winch assembly. Don't know if they would sell to someone who doesn't have the entire product though because it would be cutting into their profits.

I have the entire front assembly off of a commercial forklift that I want to modify for my 3-point. It would also serve as a good log skid setup and that is why I was looking around for a PTO powered winch to install on it. Logging winches are very industry specific. Fast speed, hand operated friction clutch for safety, easy feedout, etc. I would not be happy with a winch unless it had these features. Just a thought, as I haven't priced them yet or know if they can be purchased.

I checked out the parts manual, but I have not called them yet. Probably will on Monday. I have a feeling that one has to order it piece by piece as replacement parts and that will be very very pricey.
