I have a hydraulic pump which is driven off my PTO shaft to power my backhoe. I seem to have a recurring problem with the 3/4" shaft going into the PTO adaptor from the pump. It keeps loosening up, causing the pump to fall away from the PTO shaft. The two are held together with a keeper shaft and set screw. Does anyone have a solution to keeping these attached? Other than welding them together. This has happened about ten times, it's getting a little frustrating. Thanks, Doug

Drill a small hole where the set screw goes in so it can go in deeper. Then use loctite on the screw.

Use a long set screw and put a jam nut on the outside to clamp down on the outer sleve and put another 90 deg. away like suggested. Or cross drill and put a long bolt through both couplers. Be aware of the posibility of getting loose clothes cought on the screws sticking out.

Thanks for the replies. Since the original set screw tightens on the keeper, I think I'll drill and tap a second hole where RickB and JB suggest. Then drill a small indentation in the shaft for the set screw to actually set in thereby preventing the shaft and sleeve from separating, and use some Loctite this time.

That should do it.
