Hydraulic Post Hole Auger

Hello pack,

Do any of you have experience with a hydraulic driven post hole auger mounted to the FEL with a skid steer attachement like the one pictured below?



This John Deere unit has a minimum 12 gpm flow requirement and my DK 40se has a 16 gpm capacity. But will my tractor be able to provide enough flow to operate the auger properly. The ability to have down pressure and having the auger in front of me is appealing. This unit is for sale locally for $1700. Interesting.

I have rented a skid steer and also the hydraulic post hole digger with it. It's by far much easier to use than the PTO post hole digger that I use on the back of my tractor. Much easier to see and control.

i have an older bobcat model 15 chain drive hydraukic unit that i use on my dk 55, as well as my new holland 885lx. the tractor will turn it fine, but the skidsteer will turn it a bit faster. I am not familiar with the flow of this unit but it is a stout one. I have used a 7 and 12 inch bit most of the time. It beats heck out of a sore neck and a pto unit.

There are 2 things to check to assure the tractor can run the auger properly, flow and pressure. The 16gpm for the 40/45SE Tractors includes the steering flow. The tractor has a 2 chamber hydraulic pump. The 16gpm includes both chambers. You will have 11.9gpm for auxiliary flow.

The other important spec. is the pressure rating. Torque/horsepower for a hydraulic motor is directly related to the system pressure. The tractor relief is set at about 2400psi. You should check the minimum pressure rating for the implement to be driven.
