Hydraulic oil

/ Hydraulic oil #21
Hello Jason280,

Here is my experience with hydraulic fluid and our Kubota L2500DT.
I used universal hydro oil in it after we built tractor and it worked just fine.

Now after the build and install of new FEL universal fluid would not stop cavitation.
After hrs of checking for leaks in suction lines and pump and many questions asked on here I bit the bullet and spent the money on Kubota Hydro oil and WOW problem solved.

BE SAFE Carl

I don't want to open a bucket of worms for you here, but am I to infer that the HST fluid change interval on my BX2350 goes to 600 hrs vs 300 hrs if I use SUDT2??

I don't believe they have changed the interval on the BX series yet. They have on some of the other models. I would not be surprised if that comes later.

Pretty much the same arguments that you will always see on every oil question.

80% of all oil comes from the basic stock the additives is what sets them apart.

There are some that are better than others when the tractor is abused in one form or another.

Kubota can't void your warranty if you run another brand but if that brand isn't compatible then that is a different story.

I personally use Schaeffer's in my tractor.

FYI I used Mobil 1 Sudt fluid at my 50 hour change and it works great. Was cheaper than getting sudt from the kubota dealer. I even think the gear noise is a bit quieter. I have 250 hours now still running great.

Is this what you used?

Mobilfluid 424

Our Kubota L3940 is used on average 30 minutes a day 365/24/7 to feed cattle and other chores. In the Winter the Hydraulic Fluid probably barely gets warm and I was thinking Synthetic might be the way to go. It's approaching the 400hr mark.

...interesting. My Kubota dealer recommended Case HyTran Ultra over the UDT for my L3400. He said they always use the HyTran since it has better water resistance (or words to that effect) and was designed for tractor transmissions. He sells nearly all Kubota tractors, not many others. I checked his shop and sure enough that was what he was using. The Hytran seems to meet Kubota spec from what I could see...

I have used Hytran exclusively for 40 years in every color of equipment made and never have had a problem. IHC developed hytran for their hydrostatic tractors and have continued with it till now.
Use what best suits you. I have stuck with hytran for simplicity reasons. I can't say if it is the best or not. I am sure kubota fluids are top of the line too. If I had one tractor and it was Kubota I would stick with Kubota. Something to be said for one stop shopping.:)

I just went back to my records and yes it was Mobil 424 that I bought. 3 - 5 gallon buckets at $54.48 a bucket.

In reading the Product Description Sheet you included, I realize that this not synthetic (wow I feel stupid)

In any event it has worked very well and in the few days we get below freezing weather where I am in Texas the Mobil fluid did seem to flow much better. The water and sealant in the tires was like a slurpy mix, but the HST and loader worked great.

My Kubota dealer uses, recommends, and sells New Holland Multi G 134 hydraulic oil. They put it in all new Kubotas and also use it for the recommended oil changes. Also, whenever any machine needs topping up he does so with the NH oil. He does sell Kubota oil in the showroom, but doesn't use it in the shop or for new setups.

I run the NH hydraulic oil in our M59. Tried the Kuboat SUDT - an expensive oil change with filters and all! - but to my ears the hydraulic pump sounded happier with the Multi G 134. So I changed back. More $$.....

Kubota must figure that the hydraulic oil really doesn't make much of a difference because it is so difficult to control. Hopefully they put some serious thought into the filtration. After all, many of these tractors are designed to use Quick Attach hydraulic implements like the ones from the Bobcat rental stores. Whatever fluid is inside the rental implement is going to immediately mix with the hydraulic fluid in the Kubota.

How much price difference is there between SUDT and the New Holland Multi G 134 ?

There's not that much difference in price between those two types of oil. Both are around $20/gallon - the SUDT slightly higher. What I was after was the best oil for the machine rather than the best price.

When I say expensive, I mean it got expensive for me because I decided to switch over to the SUDT completely. That meant changing both hydraulic filters at the same time. So figure roughly 12 gallons of fluid and add to that a little less than a hundred dollars worth of filters to make the switch.

The SUDT didn't work as well. It was one of the few times I've seen an oil change making so definite of a difference. So after giving it a try for about 40 or 50 hours I switched back to the Multi G. Same $$ deal all over again.... And that's when my checkbook began to complain.
