Hydraulic oil leak

I had my MF 175 repaired for a leak around the pto shaft. The shaft also had some play in/outward. With minimal use, the shaft has moved into the tractor and it leaks profusely. Looks like some kind of fabric wadding was put in to prevent leaking, what holds the shaft in place, how to repair the right way

The MF 175 has a several transmission, clutch, and PTO engagement variations - you didn't specify yours.
That being said, I believe that the PTO shaft generally connects to a driveshaft via a splined coupler & a cotter pin. Maybe the cotter pin sheared or is missing?

Go to https://parts.agcocorp.com/us/en/apbsearch?q=masseyferguson/651190/l&name=MF+175+TRACTOR# and find the "DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING AND P.T.O. SHAFT" diagram for your unit. The PTO seals will show as well.

Get a Service Manual before you begin disassembling anything!
