Just how flamable is UDT? I have about 5 gallons of used oil from the last change and a humongous slash pile to burn.

If its still clear I mix mine in with diesel and burn it in the tractor. It runs the same so it is burning well. For starting your brush pile you will probably need to mix a little of it with gasoline at 20% ratio to be able to light it easily and get some heat to initiate the rest. Either that or some dry kindling or a weed torch to provide the heat to get it burning well.

It's nothing more than a highly additized hydraulic oil and will burn like any other light weight oil.

If you drop a wood match into a bucket of hydro oil, the match will go out.

To burn a slash pile, put a few cardboard boxes in the pile, wet down the center of the pile with the hydro oil and the boxes too. Light the cardboard.

Good deal, thanks!

It'll be a little hard to get anything to the middle of the pile since it's about 100' by 150' and 20-25' tall! (About 3 acres of woods worth) So the oil will go in sprayer and get worked in onthe edges and then lit off with a propane burner. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't too volatile or very non-volatile and hard to start.

It actually is fairly hard to start that way. The propane burner will help a lot. I'd just get a 1 gal bucket and toss it on the pile as high up as I could. Do that on the upwind side. Stuff the cardboard in and light.

If you have a propane weed burner (like from harbor) you don't need the cardboard, but it helps.

You'll get the same results with gasoline.

The match might go out when it was submerged, but you would be runn'n hard for the emergency room for those 3rd degree burns.

Don't anyone try to drop a lit match into a bucket of gasoline.

Dropping a lit match into a bucket of hydro oil will result in an extinguished match and no flames (or 3rd degree burns).

You'll get the same results with gasoline.

The match may go out when it submerges in the gas but the fumes above the liquid will ignite. Gasoline fumes are highly explosive and gas has a much lower flash point than oil does.

I use road flares to start fires now. Sure cuts down on the hassle and will even get wet material going. A pile that big you might want to use a few. Dump your UTF on the pile, toss in a couple of flares and sit back and relax.

I use the old ones out of one of the cars then replace them. Helps make sure there are fresh flares in the cars too.
