There are a number of factors that effect flow. Losses from valves, fittings, lines and hoses adds up. Used a 12gpm hydraulic motor for a FEL pole chainsaw on a 16gpm 3rd function tractor. Intermittent use, usually near idle. So far no trouble even with occasional dead heading from stalled motor. Commercially made similar saws use smaller motors for over a wide range of tractors flow capacities.
Adding 36’ of hose and fittings reduces available flow. Used 1/2” hose to reduce loss. Use a small metering flow control valve at the motor to provide a drop of fluid every 10 seconds to the saw chain for lubrication.
Use same saw on a 7gpm 3rd function tractor with little difference in function.
