hydraulic leak Yanmar 2000D

Due to multiple problems tractor set for a year. Needed to bush hog. recharged battery and checked fluids. The hydraulic fluid was milky. Drained fluid, cleaned filter and then left open and allowed to dry for 3 days. Refilled fluid and 3 pt would not go up or down. Opened back plate and tapped on piston twice which freed piston. Able to move 3 pt arms easily. Placed PTO speed in the setting above neutral. Cut brush for 4 hours with 1 break, (checked fluid level and clear). When finished went to place PTO back in neutral and shifter would not move down and started leaking fluid under the seat. I could not see where the fluid came from. Where could the leak be and how to fix. The fluid is about a quart low but clear. Will get more this weekend

It sounds like you have several situations going on at once. Does the three point lift work now? I'm not clear based on your post.

"The speed above neutral" implies you were in the wrong speed. Moving the tip of the lever fully down is first. Up a click is neutral. Up another is second gear. Another notch higher is also neutral, and pulling up one more click gives third. Second gear is 730 rpm, too high, probably, to be safe running the cutter.

It should still shift out of neutral. If the tractor is in gear for the transmission, take it out of gear. With the engine off, twist the PTO shaft back and forth by hand. You won't be able to go much distance, because you are attached to the wheels, even in neutral, unless you have an overrunning clutch. But with a bit of juggling, it should pop up or down into a neutral speed.

The hydraulic leak is, perhaps, from the stop valve under the seat. It is intended to block off the three point circuit. It may be leaking, have fallen out, or something.

Appreciate the help. Especially with the speed. Had read several years ago on this site that the second gear was the speed for bush hogging. Will try to move the handle tonight and see if it will move. I do have an over running clutch.

Maybe they meant second gear for the wheels. There isn't a single correct ground speed, I don't think. You should be traveling at a speed that allows efficient operation in a safe fashion. That may be quite fast over light material in known ground, or literally crawling speed in low range through uneven, rough, unknown terrain.

Unless you have an unusual cutter, virtually all of the brush mowers require 540 RPM, which is first PTO gear on your YM2000.
