I have 3 lightly used implements that take 10 ft hydraulic hoses so I was going to make a universal hydraulic hose with a male on one end and female coupling the other and put a male fitting on the cylinder. I presumed the fittings were 1/2 npt. I removed the hose from the cylinder and my 1/2 pipe nipple will not thread into the cylinder so I can attach my male Hyd coupling, however the female coupling will screw onto the hose that come out of the cylinder. It does seem a little loose. Is there a metric pipe fitting that close to 1/2 inch? Or am I trying to do something that can't be done.... again?

Give us more information like what brand of cylinder or implement and/or the fitting numbers printed on the hose at the cylinder end.

Simple answer is yes some fittings styles are close enough where they will screw together but not well.

Was there any type of seal or seal ring on the fitting in the cylinder?

1/2” NPT is 14 threads per inch OD 0.84 ID 0.77

British pipe is very similar at 14 threads per inch OD 0.82 ID 0.75

There is also JIS tapered pipe that is very similar to both of the above.

If is SAE O-ring port then closest is 7/8-14 thread OD is .0.88 ID 0.81

BSPT is very close to NPT. BSPT stands for British Standard Pipe Tapered. Both NPT and BSPT are common threads used for hydraulic fittings.

My old Kubota M5030 had several types of fittings. JIC, NPT, British taper and SAE O-ring. Mix of SAE and British taper pipe thread grease zerks.

Hoses are $40-$50 , for the 3 implements that $250-$300, I was going to make up a pair that I could use on all three and then store in the shop and they wouldn't weather. That's my problem now, the hoses are all weathered, and one has failed.

I think my cylinder is a 1/2 ORB rather than a 1/2 NPT. I've found a nipple for < $10 that is 1/2 ORB to 1/2 NPT.

That was clear and I agree on what you’re doing. I was wondering about putting quick couplers on the implement end of the hoses and on the implements.

TractorTech, that is exactly what I was trying to do. New hose with pioneer type fittings on each end and they connect to the tractor and to the implement with a pioneer fitting. Disconnect and no mess, put on the other piece of equipment. Take them off and store when not using. Plan failed when I discovered the cylinder was ORB not NPT! The male ORB will screw into the female NPT and I hope with some teflon tape it won't leak...or blow apart. When the hose fails I'll get 1/2 npt on both ends.
