Oil & Fuel Hydraulic Fluid

Hey guys,

I purchased my tractor about two months ago. Since then I've put about five hours on the FEL. The guy I purchased it from owns an auto mechanic shop and so he put all new hydraulics on the tractor since the lines were original and cracking, etc. He did not replace the oil or fuel filter - he just wanted the tractor in sellable condition. He did give it an oil change (weird to do an oil change but not replace the filter?). I got to thinking after reading a couple posts about hydraulic fluid; I don't know what kind of fluid he put in the tractor. I guess I could call but I'd be annoyed if folks are calling me two months after I sold something. I presume the fluid is cheapo stuff. My question is if you were in my shoes would you replace the hydraulic fluid with what you know - the good stuff? Or would you not worry about it, considering it hasn't given me any problems.

I would just change ALL the fluids. If nothing else at least you would have piece of mind. And then you would know how to change and how much everything takes.

I would be inclined to replace all fluids and filters and then go by the manual recommendations on service from there. Be sure to keep records as you might forget what and when you replaced it. I use to put the date on my filters.

It is not unusual to change oil without changing the filter or filter without changing the oil.

As the other guys have already mentioned, change all fluids and filters for your peace of mind. IMHO, you wouldn't have posted your question if you didn't already have doubts.

i'd do a full service.

I wouldn't be worried so much that he used cheap oil.. that's what I use in my small fleet of tractors

I'd be more concerned that he used the correct spec oils..

thus a full service is a good baseline for you to put in your maintenance records.
