After three hours of mowing in 90 deg weather, I pulled the mower PTO shaft off the tractor and was surprised how hot the shaft was. I used one of the infrared thermometers and found the PTO shaft stub to be 172 deg F with the fluid probably 5-10 deg hotter. I figure anything below 200 deg should be ok but ....Do our tractors have a hydraulic fluid cooler?

My CK30hst has a hydro oil cooler that is in front of the radiator. I imagine yours would be similar. Especially if mowing very tall grasses, make sure you check this cooler, the radiator screens and the radiator cooling fins themselves. Members have posted that they will start to get plugged up with grass and such which normally leads to higher engine temps. I never measured my hydro oil temp after working the tractor so I can't help you on the temp.

The screens do get plugged up when mowing tall grass but I have not yet seen the coolant gauge move beyond normal. I'll have to check for the transmission cooler next time I clean the screens.
