Hi,

What is the maximum continuous operating temperature for hydraulic fluid in a tractor? What happens if the temp goes too high?

What is the optimum operating temperature?

Thanks,
jb

Well I don't know what it would be for tractors. I've never had a tractor with a temp. display for the hydraulics.

In the plant where I work off farm we have the shut down temp. set point at 155 f. But this is for hydraulic oil only. Normal operating temp. for these units is 110 -140. I've seen one unit that got to hot. The shut down interlock failed and the oil turned to tar. Or it looked like tar anyway. I didn't shoot it with a heat gun but from touching the tank I expect it was well over 200 deg. We do have one large system that we run up to 165. It has a little over 1,400 gal. in that system. Very large flow.

John, Idon't know the answer to that but my understanding is that you cannot really overcool hydraulic fluid. I have taken note of just how hot my hydraulic fluid is on my L3830 HST and even on the hottest days pulling my box scraper with rippers down and running in low range, I just simply cannot get the oil so hot that I cannot touch the hydraulic lines that have continuous flow at the cooler. I guess the combination of the hydraulic cooler up front and the design on mine make it difficult to overheat the hyd. oil, whatever that temperature is.

PS, welcome back!

When I had some problems with power steering on my B2910 a few years ago. I had a visit from a Kubota Field Tech. He stated that normal temperature of transmission oil would be about 100 degrees above ambient temperature. I have a valve that is mounted on the right rear fender. When turning in seat to look back at how a 3PH attachment is operating. I will touch my arm on it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif It hurts. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have checked the temperature, its real close to 185 degrees on a 85 degree day.
