Hydraulic fluid for older Bobcat

I need help in figuring out what type fluid to put in for the hydraulics on a melvre 500 bobcat. The bobcat dealer said to use dexron 2 but I can't find it anywhere. I am hoping someone also has a 500 bobcat and can tell me what they use. Thank You. Earl M.

Dextron II is an automatic transmission fluid used by GM cars for quite a few years. It should still be available at auto parts stores, but buying it by the quart when you need 18 gallons for a fill might get pricey. I would suggest going to a bulk fuel / oil supplier and ask if there is an equivalent that is available in 5 gallon pails, or they might have a few buckets of ATF type A in a dusty corner.

Thanks for the reply. I tried napa car parts and tractor supply but no luck. Is it Dextron II or Dexron II. It is for the hydraulics. Earl

NAPA has Dexron III in 5 gallon pails. Your store should be able to order it for you. Dexron III is backward compatible with II and IID. But I'm pretty sure Dexron IV is not backward compatible. Good Luck.

Dexron II was superceded by Dexron III,now the latest labeling is Dex/Merc due to some lawyer-ese.
Find Dex/Merc anywhere-expect to pay $3.00/quart.
