hydraulic filter for car power steering?

Just a thought I had.. Never can have to much filtration IMO

what do you guys think?

I've never had a fluid related power steering issue. I change my fluid yearly.

Power steering on a car is one of those things that works so well it's easy to forget about it. I wouldn't mess with a design that's that reliable.

Some cars have a OEM PS filter already on them.
If you wanted to add one I'd look at the Magnefine units made for that.

I'm using a spin on type hydraulic fluid filter on my CJ and it works great. I use it for two reasons , I tapped into my steering box and plumbed a hydro ram assist for added steering, and not only does it filter the fluid it adds volume and helps with cooling the fluid.

You don't see many filters on steering systems for two reasons:
1: there are not many ways for dirt to get in
2: its cheaper that way

countrybumpkin will get some dirt into his system through the ram seals, which are in the mud and dirt.

One caution though, you may blow your hose off due to cold oil causing too much resistance in the filter. Make sure it is secure so you don't loose your steering while you are driving.
