:) Otherwise I would use a Unimog over a jeep

Yea, and I bet parts are fun to find and pay for on a unimog. Jeeps stuff is everywhere. besides, stick a dana 60 in the rear and a 44 up front and you're virtually indestructable. My preference, but to each his own, I suppose.
Only thing that would improve a Jeep, IMHO is a diesel up front.

When the Unimog 404 was surplused by the armies of the world, they also surplused there extensive spare parts inventories. Where can you buy a rebuilt Jeep engine, complete with all accessories from Carb to Starter for 2500 buck? There are several parts distributors in the US and Canada. Fella just 2 hours from me that has front and rear complete Axles sets drum to drum for $2400. (Actually he sells the fronts for 2400 and throws in the rears for free as the Jeep guy are buying up all the front axles for dual steering with Portal Axles.

Anyway, I love jeeps too and bought my first CJ7 in 1985. New jeeps are so overpriced, I am building my own off-road buggy. :licking:

While I'm sure you have plenty of parts where you are, I have yet to even see one on the road or off road here. Might be some, but not common at all, so I doubt parts are easy or cheap to come by.

While I can find Jeep engines, used, new, rebuilt, whichever your preference, most anyplace. Here's a rebuilt long block 4.0L inline six (best Jeep engine ever, in my opinion) 1997-1998 Jeep TJ Engine - L6, 4.0 L, 242 CID; Our Remanufactured Engines Backed By 100,000 Mile / 7-Year Warranty! it's only $1500. I have no doubt any new parts you'd that don't come off the old engine, to complete the rebuild, could be had well within the extra $1000. I'm sure each has it's merits, especially since the truck version of the Mog, would be a hard match up for a Jeep.

That was the only reason I got rid of my '01 Wrangler, in 2006, was to buy a truck I badly needed. For hauling lots of items, I pulled my trailer My Hunting Rig (I tried to paste the pic, but it came up with an X in a box, so here's a link to my web site with the pic.)

Sadly, it still wasn't enough, and I needed the cash to pay for a truck. Life is full of crappy choices sometimes.
