Hydraulic Drain/Fill/Level Plugs

A friend of mine has a Ford 5900 and was trying to find a level plug for the hydraulic/final drive unit. If I understood him correctly, he said that he found the drain plug and the fill plug, but could not find the plug to remove to know that it was filled to the correct level.

Does anyone have that depth of detail knowledge of this particular model?

On my Ford 3000 it is a square drive plug on the right side, just in front of rear axle about half way up

Yes, that's where it is on my 3000 near the right step. My friend says he didn't find one there.

is the 5900 a ommon sump machine like a late 5000 / 5600? if so.. trans dipstick will tell ya.

in any case.. I bet there is still a pipe plug on the rear top side of the left axle trumpet..
