i just rebuilt a couple of cylinders on my Case 530 backhoe. they are working fine but i have a leak out of the hole where there was a small screw put in to lock the gland to the tube originally. After reassembly of coarse the holes dont line up so i guess you are supposed to put in a new hole and pin. But the original, half holes now, are leaking fluid does any body know why? Was this hole drilled to deep on last rebuild or can leak be stopped with maybe another backup ring on outer gland o ring? any advise would help
Thanks jray

Pictures?

Not sure which hole.

In general if in good shape the seal should keep fluid from getting to the threads. Could you have torn a seal? Scratched rod?

the holes are there only to insert a set screw to keep the gland from unscrewing

Your leak is from damage to the oring/backup ring.......pull the gland out and replace them again (cleaned and greased)
