Tractor
Long 2260
I have a Long 2260 tractor, purchased recently. Everything work properly at first. When lifting the box blade it started operating in a jerky motion. I drained the Hydraulic fluid (looked like milk chocolate), cleaned the filter screen and refilled the system. Fluid level is full but system still is very jerky. Once the box blade is in the up position the system hold. When the system is trying to raise the box blade I can hear, what sound like gurgling noise in the line. My next step is to check the filter again. Could it be hydraulic pump is going bad?

on mu JD 5105 I drained the fluid, clean the screen and definitely had to change the hyd filter also. worked fine until the milky fluid and dirty reservoir clogged the screen and filter again. Drained fluid again, cleaned screen again and washed out the filter with some diesel fuel. has been working better for a week but then I musta stired up all the dirt, dust and milky stuff and am now gonna evacuate the reservoir completely of all fluid , clean screen and put ne hyd filter again.
I just need to find an appropriqte measure for cleaning out the actual reservoir

Thanks Jeff. That is my plan of attack this weekend. A friend also told me to remove the output line from the pump and operate the system to ensure fluid is actually being pushed through the pump.

Are you seeing any air in your fluid when it's running? Does the 3 point lift a little jerkily and then stop, then lift a little more a few seconds later until it's up? If yes, will it drop just a little when it stops?

If the pump fails, there will be no question once you pull the filter and screen, it'll have LOTS of metal in it.

I just went through a similar issue and my problem was that it was pulling air on the intake side of the pump. I fought it for a long time before I finally took it to a competent mechanic who found the issue by pressuring the sump with compressed air which allowed fluid to drip where it was sucking air.

Thanks!
I pulled the dip stick and the fluid looked clean, clear, and no air bubbles that I can see but that might be what I heard going through the high pressure line. I'm pulling the filter tomorrow to check that first. If that is clean I will probably disconnect the high pressure line to make sure fluid is flowing. Could be messy! Oh, and yes the operation is very jerky, it moves up a little, stops, then up a little more and so on.

Well, the fluid on the dip stick may have looked clean, but... The good news is that the filter was clean, not clogged at all. The bad news is that the fluid that I though was clean was a light brown. When I first changed the fluid I did not do a double flush, I simply drained the fluid then fill it back up. The tractor is kept in a barn out of the weather (rain) and has not been operated in the rain since I purchase it. From what I have read the best way to remove the water is to go through several 5 gallon flushes of the hydraulic system to ensure the fluid in the complete system gets purged. It will be a couple of weeks before I can get back to working on it. I have my Honey-do list to get caught up on.

PS Does any one know how to find out when my tractor was manufactured? The serial number is 30003349, the engine number is 009773.
