I've found that if I get rid of the dials, and buttons and just put in dead centering two way toggle switches that the 3pt becomes much more reliable as far as trying to figure out all of the zillion possible combinations of switch and dial settings. I've done this on Iseki, Yanmar, and Mitsubishi and it works great. I have to thank Buck at EFC for helping on the first one. Has worked several times since. I prefer the marine grade toggle switches as they are weather sealed.
Use good quality connectors, run the wires through some of that plastic wire loom to prevent them from being damaged and you'll be good to go. I'm sure it would work in the Hino's too, just have to find the main four hot wires(two to raise and lower, two for the tilt if you have it) and ground all of the grounds.
