I build this Auger last winter also from odds and ends, total out of pocket was $380 for the 12" auger bit
spindle is a 2" shaft fitted in a dodge 4x4 frontwheel hub and keyed to a home made HD love coupler to a 125 rpm hydr motor i found on the salvage yard.

It mounts to either a bale fork(slip on a prong) on my tractor or the quick attach on my mini loader with a adaptor with 1 pin
I drilled a 100 or so holes with it for a new corral, works slick

K that is so slick. can you give any more detail as to the 4X4 hub deal. That is exactly what I want to build. I have the augers, and a drive but have to share it with my brother. I was going to copy it but it has a hyd motor with a chain to shaft. makes it a bit more bulky deal.
I think one key is getting that hydraulic motor drive for a decent price. but now that I know what to look for.

I hope you got a lathe or acces to one, cause there is a fair bit of machining involved here.

I chose a 79 dodge hub cause i had it and the org brg was 2" ID ,the same as the shaft dia.I machined a seperate collar for on the shaft to fit the seal and provide a downward trust surface for the brg.
the other end of he shaft is turned down to fit the small brg and part is treaded for the ring nuts to hold it all in place, the last part is turned down and a keyway milled in(i did that on the lathe as well) for the love joy coupler.

The hub's snout is turned back to give room for the body of the LJ coupler.

The "top hat" is made from a piece of pipe 1/4" thick with a flange machined and welded to top and bottom, final machining is done after assembly to get the hole thing squired up and centered to the hub and motor flange.

The love joy coupler gave me the biggest challence as there is nothing avalable to handle the torque needed and at the same time small enough to slip trough the motor mounting hole.
So i made one myself.

If you need info on that thing,i'll have to take mine apart and show a pic or 2 cause it is hard to explain in writing how i went about it.

Hope this helps a bit.
