Greetings, I recently purchased a 71 Ford 3500, so far it's been a great find and am looking forward to using it but I am having steering issues. Has anyone taken apart the steering cylinder?
I have the cylinder off and apart as far as the front clip, seal, and 2 washers but don't know how to get the shaft out, anyone?

Not sure if you already fixed it or not. If it's a single cylinder, on the left side, that pulls on a pitman arm attached to the axle....That cylinder has to be cut open on a lathe, re-packed and welded closed. I had one done a month ago. I was going to do it myself but I went camping instead. I paid the $306 at the hydraulic shop and had it back by the time I got home. I saved a lot of money by cleaning everything and having it disassembled and ready to go for them.

Thanks for the reply, I tried to fix it not knowing the thing had to be cut??? I did however replace the outer seals by prying and such,(no fun either) I do still think it leaks but steers fine. I will someday pull it off again and take it to a hyd shop I do business with , after I talk $ with them. thanks again.
