I have a case 2001 , 1840 skid steer with aux hyd I am hooking up a back hoe the aux line size is bigger than the one's on the back hoe is this a prob?
I had it hooked up and it does operate
I just wanted to make sure that going to the smaller lines on the hoe is not a prob for the skid's aux hook up
Any info would be great thank you

No problem. You probably will not notice any difference.

Most of these Backhoe attachments did not require much flow so they had smaller lines to help keep the cycle speed down. Some even have adjustable flow control.

The only issue might be heat generation from pressure loss through the lines.

Actually, if not doing any serious work, there is little pressure in the valve or hoses. The volume is there if you give it full lever, but not necessarily the pressure. Pressure is developed by the act of doing heavy work. Some of the BH circuits have restrictors to limit speed.

this is true if they are sized correctly to handle the flow rate from the pump. I did a quick search on the 1840 and the specs say it has a 15.3 GPM gear pump.
As an example: If the OP is trying to run this much flow through a few feet of 3/8 hose he is going to have some pressure drop. 15 GPM in 3/8 ID hose is apporox 43.5 FPS (feet per second) velocity. My chart only goes up 30 FPS and that shows a loss of 8.5 PSI per foot of hose.

If you want to know the pressure on anything, put a gage on it, and observe the readings. You can install the gage just after the pump, and then at the last item that is using the hyd, up to the cyl or motor, and read the pressure.

A pressure loss or differential around the 2500 psi level of 50 psi will only lose about 157 lbs of force


If you want to really know the pressure the BH is using, install a tee in the FEL valve, and it will tell you what any circuit is using. You can also check the PRV for the BH. Should be set equal to or lower than the FEL PRV.

Yes, I understand.

That small amount of pressure loss will not affect anything. The PRV for the BH is probably set lower than the tractor hyd's.
