They've been several posts here asking who makes various outdoor products like mowers and tractors. Many times it's some poor soul trying to find parts for an older machine built by a company that has been bought and sold several times.
On Thursday I saw my first Cub Cadet (MTD) walk-behind mower with the Chinese Honda-knockoff engine. Those engines are built by a Taiwanese company called Jenn Feng, which was recently purchased by Husqvarna, who owns AYP. A couple years ago MTD signed an agreement with Jeng Feng that allowed both companies sell the products of the other company in Asia and North America. So, it seems, that now you have MTD selling Jenn Feng products (now owned by Husqvarna) and Jenn Feng selling McCulloch, Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, and Yard Machines from MTD. At least that's how I think it works.
Independent repair shops might struggle for a bit when a customer shows up with a mower, or chainsaw, they bought at a big-box store to ask for warranty repairs. There will be a learning curve for these new products, and parts stocking will be another challenge.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the Husqvarna chainsaw line now that they own a major Asian chainsaw manufacturer. Husky owns Mac; who'd a thought it.
