Husqvarna 2754 GLS whining sound and very little acceleration in reverse

I have a 4 year old Husqvarna 2754GLS garden tractor which when put into reverse exhibits a loud whining sound and there is very little acceleration in reverse. There is no problem when going forward. Is there some adjustment that can be made to correct this problem?
