Thinking of buying a 365 for bigger trees and chainsaw milling some lumber, anyone with a husq 365. What is your opinion of the saw.

I had an older 365 special. Nice running saw but didnt fit with the rest of my collection.

Are you looking new or used?

If used: there were 2 versions of the 365. A plain 365, and a 365 special. I dont recall all the differences but the special is the more desirable one. Different porting and different carb IIRC, making the special a bit stronger and an easy upgrade to the 372. Basically the special was built just like an xp saw but without the xp label.

Dont know on the newer ones.

Thanks,LD1, for your reply. This saw is a 365 X-Torq with 4.83HP engine and 28" bar max. Husq is having a sale Friday & Saturday 20% off up to $1000.

I think that saw will be substantially underpowered with a 28" bar. It'll do really good with a 20" and will wear a 25" well for occasional use. For milling, though it's all the way down on the bottom end of saws for the job. Most people like to run 90cc+ saws for milling.

If you've got a couple medium sized softwood logs to mill every year and want a saw that will buck big rounds (although kind of slowly) then it could work and won't bust the bank. If you're going to be milling more than that or want a saw that will really make you smile while bucking big material, that's not the saw for the job. You should be looking at a Stihl 460 at a minimum or preferably a 661 or Husky 395xp.

3 different 365 now. OE 65cc open port, 65cc closed quad port. The NE 365 XT 71cc like the 372 with blockage in transfer covers. Grind them out and you have the extra power of 372.

Good saw! It'll pull a 28" bar, but will be happier with a 24".

I bought a Stihl MS441 magnum for milling 20" logs, I believe it is similar sized as the 365, I can tell you I wish I spent the extra $250 and picked up the MS461. It works but it is work. Unless you have other uses for the saw or plan on doing some milling over several years, I would just hire a portable mill to come cut up you lumber. A lot less work and time. Around me it is $275-300 per 1000 board feet for a potable mill.

BTW- get the ripping chain, day and night on cutting ease.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my inquiry about a Husq 365 chainsaw. I purchased this saw and have used it several times with a 20 in. bar and ripping chain. Purchased on Black Friday, the price was right ($607.96 before tax) and it works great!
