Husky 22 ton splitter at TSC

I picked one up just last month. Only issue so far is hard starting in cold weather. Also, either it plain sucks gas or the tank is too small. Seems I have to refill it much more often then with the units I used to rent.

I have the TSC 22 ton splitter which is really made by speedco. great splitter more than enough power.. the only issue I have is a minor hydro leak but the pump I think its a loose fitting ect..
other than that great splitter and if you do have one change the oil out after a few tanks of gas. you will be amazed at that metal shavings in there...

I dont know if they have changed anything since we got our Huskee/speeco 27T about 10 years ago, but it had that small hyd. leak as well.

Ours was on the suction like.

The problem was, it wasnt actually a suction hose. Rather a high pressure hydraulic hose held onto the fitting with a hose clamp:confused2:

We changed that and also added a shutoff valve before the filter, so JUST the filter can be changed regularly.

when you say you changed that do you mean you changed the hose to one that didnt have the hose clamp setup?

No. We used the right kind of hose to use the hose clamp.

It is just common hydraulic suction line that we used.

What was on it wen new was high pressure hose. And that stuff is so stiff with the wire braids that a hose clamp just doesnt work. It was just a poor set-up from the factory.

I was going to go with the 22 ton TSC splitter but then read where Lowes will take Home Depot coupons. So for a couple of bucks I bought a few 20% off HD coupons from ebay and used one to buy the 27t Troy Built with the Honda from Lowes no questions asked.

After about 8 years of splitting about 8 cord a year it still starts on the second pull no matter how cold and runs like a Swiss watch. I have yet to stall it no matter what I throw at it. From massive 4' diameter Beech to knotty twisty yellow Birch.

Checked my splitter today there seems to be oil on the bottom of the pump. it could be leaking down from a fitting but i checked the suction line it looks as though its just a clear rubber hose.. I checked the tightness of all the hose clamps but found nothing.

to be continued.... Im still very happy with this splitter and think this is just an assy. error on TSC part not an actual problem with the unit..
