Hughesnet quota question.

Can you get Verizon cell signal at your house? You may want to consider the Millenicom.com hotspot/mifi plan - its 20gb of Verizon broadband internet for $70/mth

NO daily caps and our signal never really slows down (like it will with satellite) - On 4g we getting about 10Mb download (the other night i got 17Mb down and 10Mb up - which is abnormal)..

To answer your question about usage - 2 of us here and we use the above MIFI - we dont stream movies or music, we dont watch any videos (news or otherwise), no youtube.. We both are on the computer at night - we use about 15gb/mth

Brian

That is a good suggestion but I just checked and it is not available here.

We've had Hughesnet for a few years and can't stand it. I think we have the cheapest plan and are constantly busting the daily download cap. All my wife has to do is view a few gardening videos and the status meter is in the red. Even when we have plenty download bandwidth left it is super slow, at practically all times of the day. I haven't tried it at 4:00 AM yet. We live way out in the boonies and unfortunately this is our only internet option aside from dial up.

We had Hughesnet for 7 years and performance kept getting worse until we went for a week with no service every afternoon and evening. Their "customer service" was absolutely horrid. We cancelled and went to AT&T Mifi.

Anyway, with the older system, we were limited to 200 mb per day. I don't know if the Gen 4 is different but from what I hear their customer service is still abysmal.

AT&T service kept going downhill and we finally went back to satellite but with Exceed/Wildblue. Their new sat is fast and better and we have a monthly limit (15GB for $79 in our case). The best part is that their customer service is very good, unlike Hughes! We did have a problem and their people were available and helpful!

That's funny I went from WildBlue to Huges because their CS sucked. In reality they all suck and locally we discovered that At&T is the worse offender which is why we now have a Verizon Home Connect home phone line. At&t = $60 a month, worked 80% with echo, crackling etc, days to fix when out and hours talking to CS. Verizon = $23 a month unlimited long distance nation wide...zero issues.

I can say that Hughes Gen 4 so far is much better than the old system, but we are top tier paying $115 a month.

Does the $115 include all fees including equipment rental?
I recall when you first got it you said a lease was not available.
Did you get the retransmitter from the hut to the cabin working so you didn't lose speed?

I just looked at the address you and Triple R gave yesterday for status.
It said:

Currently in Regular Period

I guess that means I have 375 MB per day instead of 350 as I stated yesterday so that would be 11,250 MB or 11 GB in 30 days
but basically "Use it or Lose It"
Does the monthly limit for Gen 4 have a daily use or lose rate or is it just the monthly total?
Our bill total is $74.89 so it looks like the EXCEED at $79 for 15 GB is a better deal.
I suppose there is a 2 year contract and an installation fee on top of that?

Pacer, yes I have two 8 degree antenna's beaming my signal from the shop up to the house. No problem in winter, but since the leaves are on the trees we are getting some spotty reception....chainsaw time.

Yes, $115 is everything and yes they own the equipment. Yes, you cannot bank MB's...use it or loose it. So far we have not come close to using all the allotted GB's. This is where we are at now with 1 day to go on this month:

ata Allowance Status OK
Data Allowance Remaining 9.9 GB

AnyTime Data Allowance 20.0 GB
AnyTime Data Allowance Remaining 7.9 GB
Bonus Bytes 20.0 GB
Bonus Bytes Remaining Bonus Bytes remaining (until your Allowance Reset) which can be used without restriction

Token Bytes Available 2.0 GB

Allowance Resets in 1 day, 4 hr and 8 min
Bonus Period Starts in 6 hr, 8 min
