Tractor
JD 2320
Spent 3 hours yesterday moving dirt. Does the whine in a HST ever go away or get less annoying?

Could you fill out your profile so we have a clue what tractor you are talking about?

I know the whine on the 2520 doesn't go away thats just hydro whine.
4720 I used a month ago also had the hydro whine as well.
Tractors are not meant to be super quite.

It should wine less in low range. Also remember the forward pedal is not like a gas pedal. Easy on the pedal is like low gear and pedal to the metal is high gear. JC

A while back someone posted that they were running synthetic hydraulic in there tractor, and it seemed to quite it down some..

My 2320 JD has 130 hours on it and it still whines a lot. From what I have read, it is the nature of the beast. The comment about synthetic transmission oil is interesting. I know my 2320 tractor makes more noise in winter cold than the summer warm. Maybe the thinner synthetic oil will be quieter.

Must be the nature of the beast. Run the engine faster and the noise will drown out the hydro. Good pair of muffs works also.

Dealer told me to run the Low Viscosity Hy-Gard (J20D) transmission oil year-round. Don't know what is in it now but after the 50 hours it will be the Low Viscosity Hy-Gard (J20D) transmission oil.

My 2305's OM states that JD ships the tractor with J20C Hy-Gard yet the Servicing part states to use J20D Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard. I'm a bit confused; BTW I live in the DEEP South where it is much more HOT and HUMID. Seems to me that J20C Hy-Gard would be preferred down here. Comments, suggestions??
