A local dealer has a repo '08 Mahindra 2816 with FEL and 208 hours on the clock. It has a few minor scatches, missing the draw bar, one yellow tail light lens broken, support for FEL not in the tube. No leaks to be found anywhere. It was used to keep up a hunting lease. It also comes with a King FM72 finish mower and a King 5' brush cutter, both in very good condition. I think I can get the whole package for close to $11,800 out the door.
I cranked and drove the tractor a little and all seems fine.
What do you think? Good deal? Fair deal? Great deal?
Thanks,
Guy

Have the dealer replace the FEL support, taillight lens, and drawbar and ask if it comes with any warranty or the remainder of the factory warranty. Maybe have him throw in the 200 hour service too. Other than that it doesn't sound too bad a price to me.

The dealer doesn't really own the tractor, they just picked it up for the finance co. I am dealing with them. The guy I am dealing with says this is what they have to get for it to break even on what was still owed on the equipment. He says they have discounted for the items mentioned. After I told him of the missing FEL support, he said he would discount for that when he gets back to work this coming Tuesday.
I don't need the finish mower or the 5' bush hog so I thought I could sell the two for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,000 and have $11,000 in the tractor. Is this a reasonalble assumption?
Thanks

Still sounds like a good price. A friend of mine sold his older (2006) 2615 for that price last summer.

It sounds good to me. I loked at a 07 repo with around a 100 hours on it and they wanted $11,500 and that was with no attachments at all. Selling the finish mower and brush hog for a grand should not be a problem.

Generally we as dealers do not set the prices on a repo which means the only money we made on it is our pick up fees and any repairs that the bank wanted done to have a sellable machine.
So asking for more will get you no where. A repo is a nonprofit piece on our lot unless we were able to buy it and most times there is not enough profit in one for a dealer to consider buying it from the bank.

I always have and will continue to ask. The worst answer I'll ever get is "No, we can't do that".

I am the same ! Like you say the worse they can do is say no but you could always ask if there is someone else you could talk to ...like the bank that now owns the tractor and they might lower the price...just a thought.

I have thought about this a lot and pretty much desided that this is probably more tractor than I need for my small acre and a half yard. I am just going to be moving a little dirt, preping for a 2 car garage, playig in the yard, etc. so I am considering a 2216 gear or the 2516 gear. I sat on one today and thought this would be much more practical for my needs.
The 2816 was nice, but honestly, it looked like it had been rode hard and put up wet.
Thanks for all the response!

I have almost 4 acres here where my house is built and use a 2516. It is just right for my size property. Sometimes I wish I had more tractor and that is when I get the 100 HP ASV RC100 over here. That makes short work of knocking over trees and the such.

There is a lady on here,AKA (Bindian) that has a 6520 with a backhoe and she only has 5 acres. I think that a lot depends on what all you need to do and how much time that you have to do it in.

I think I might go with the 2516 gear with the shuttle shift. I got a price today from a dealer for $12,591 out the door. I thought that was a good price. The next best price I got was $12,992 OTD. Both prices with loader. Unless I change my mind, I am going with the 2516. I don't have any trees to push over, Katrina took care of that. I just want a little tractor to tinker around with.:D

THink about your current and future needs. How much grass? How much weeds? Scraping? Planting? Do you need 4wd? Do you need the small 4wd versus the larger 2wd 3525 series? You can get more tractor for your money with the larger 2wd. WHat are your ground conditions? Are you moving dirt? Will a FEL just be a wheel barrow or do you have serious dirt digging?
What does "tinkering mean"?
10 to 12 k is alot of money.
Regards
Michelle

I have almost 3 acres and I have a 3316 gear. It is a lot of tractor, but I was zeroing in on a 2816 and, honestly, the 3316 looked a bit smaller. I like it because it does a good job on round bales (on the 3pt).

I bought the 2516 gear with loader. My property consist of about an acre and a half of yard. Honestly, I probably could have just hired out the work I needed done, but I am a DIYer and just really "wanted" a small tractor to work around the house with. This little tractor will take a load off of the wife and I as a motorized wheel barrow, unloader, dirt mover. I think a larger tractor would be inconvenient for the size of the property.
I plan on putting in a pool, building a combination 2 car garage/pool house, so it will be used a lot for building and landscaping around the place.
I have used it to unload brick from a trailer, a new box blade from a trailer and move brick to the front yard to build a walk way.
It was a lot of money,$12.6K OTD, but heck, I am 55, everything is paid for, including the new tractor. I am tickled with my new toy and plan on using it for a multitude of things.
Thanks for all the replies!

Hello all,

I purchased a 2216 in the fall, and it has been a pleasure to own and operate. I have the FEL and 3 pt finish mower and it mows 4 acres easily. It does operate a 5' bush hog also, I can see where the 2516 could be better there.

I look forward to reading the forum.

Mike
