Hi guy's long time first time....I just bought a 4120 on an online industrial auction. YAHOO! I have a trailer with 6' 8" (80 inches) between the fenders that I normally use for my Landcruiser and JD 790. The brochure I have says the width is 91.9 inches (almost 8 feet!). That must be a misprint! I am hoping this is for the Fine turf (golf course) tires. Anyone have a 4120 with normal turf tires and a tape measure handy???

I have access to a deckover gooseneck but would rather take my bumper pull.

Thanks,

Dar

According to the owners manual, the R3 tires on the front can be set at 53-57" and the rear 55-67". If it has the Golf tires, the front can be set at 53-58" and the rears at 59-64". The only remaining question would be did they put a different set of tires or rims on the tractor?

Thanks Radman! I was trying to figure out how it could be so wide.....I am sure it is a stock turf rim / tire configuration from the limited pictures included in the auction.....I'll know monday if I got a good deal or not when I pick it up!

Thanks again!

Dar,

FWIW, the R1 ag tires can be set to 91" wide or seven other - shorter distances.

The Jd manual says 75" is the widest for R1 and R4 in the 4000 series. Mine is set at 72" with R1s. When I did that, there was only 1 more position left which would have made it probably 75".

I have a 4320 with r4 tires with tires out about 5in ea side from the narrowest setting. Its tight but it will fit between my 6'10" fenders on my trailer. Worst case take a 7/8 and 15/16 socket, wrenches , and floor jack to make what ever combination ( width) you need.
Good luck with your purchase

You're scaring me radman1!
The 3000 series would be a better size overall for the size of my; however, it's low ground clearance (9") coupled with a very narrow stance made me realize that the larger 4000 series is more suitable. (16.5" ground clearance)
I spent months devouring the informed opinions of the uber knowledgeable experts on these forums (you know who you are, thank you sincerely), and built a spreadsheet to help keep my facts straight.
My spreadsheet shows the 3000 series having a max outside length of 58.4 with R1's and 58.9 with R4's.
The 4000 series shows a max outside length of 91.9 with R1's and 76 with R4's. FWIW a B3003 is 53.8 with R4's, and my 1020 is 74" with R1's.
As I found these numbers, I added them to the spread sheet, however I didn't reference where I found them, but the actual values were extremely important to me as the 74" stance of my 1020 causes mucho pucker factor on my slanted property (without a cab) so I knew I needed something wider than that.
I'll see if I can find the source of the 91" and post it.

Okay, I found it on page three (bottom right) of the online 4000 series brochure - 91.9".
Also Nebraska Tractor tests shows 90.0" (wipes sweat from brow),
so it's got to be greater than 75".
Is it possible that your R1 tires or wheels are different than what is currently being shipped by Deere?

According to a print out I have from my Deere dealer, the R3 turf has a minimum overall width of 74.0". Maximum overall width is 86.6". Hope this helps.

John Deere changed the R4 rims on the 4000 series starting sometime in 2009 -- don't know about R1's and R3's. The R4 rims no longer have 7 positions as shown in the Operators Manual (hasn't been updated yet). The R4 rims are welded and can only be mounted either very narrow or very wide. I measured the overall tire/wheel width on narrow to be 71". I believe the wide position is about 89" if memory serves me right (have it written down over in the barn). If wheel width is very important you should double check it on the newer tractors to make sure you are not surprised like me when I recently got a new 2010 4320 with R4 tires.
