How well does your gas gauge work?

I've had my X485 for a couple of months and I'm trying to get a feel for how much gas it's using. I know most of the Kawi engines use about a gallon an hour , but I want to make sure mine is running about the same. I filled the tank to close to the brim and noted the hour meter at the time. The fuel gauge tends to bounce around. About 4 hours after i filled it, it was on "E". and I've run another hour with it sitting on "E". Is this normal? Is anyone's more accurate?

I have run my X540 for around 6.5 hours, doing a variety of tasks, and used around 4 gallons. The gauge has never been below 1/4. It will take some time before I get a real good idea about the gauge, and fuel economy.
