How warm is your shop/garage?

I put in a new 95% efficient furnace running propane two years ago and with a programmable thermostat keep the temp at 58deg F

I had a pellet stove that ate 2 40lb bags a day. Too much to head down there every day.

I have 6" walls insulated.

I have a 24x36 wood shop with heat and air provided by heat pump with propane furnace backup. It has programmable T'stat but I usually use it as an old fashioned T'stat... on 67 when I'm there or going to be in a while and off when not occupied. Walk through the connecting door and you are in my 21x50 ft metal shop with boxwood stove and one register from wood shop. The two shops are also connected by a roll-up garage door so sharing heat or cooling is not too tough (think box fan for circulation.) 10 ft ceilings with good insulation and 6 in insulated walls. Wood shop is between garage and house and has metal shop on south side so it only has one exposed exterior wall.

In general I don't occupy the metal shop as often or as long as wood shop so I don't heat it unless I plan on being there for a while. Wood burning stove heats it well for longer periods of occupancy and besides with welding leathers on and an electric torch in hand I'm not cold often.

I have gas piped into shops so could add propane heater if I wanted.

My garage had the wood stove for years, Its 2/4 but fully insulated. That worked well but this year I wanted to go with some electric to just be able tot turn on when i got in to use the garage.I bought a 240 volt heater that works somewhat ok and also a couple of small 120 space heaters for one end of the shop It hads a 13 foot ceiling so its hard to heat.I am very disapointed int he electric, Even though it come in well in the range for heating it.
What I failed to think of is the rating is probably if run steady. I only want the heat wen I have to work on the car, so its somewhere in the 20's sometimes and the electric takes too long to come up to temp.
So I am back ,and hooked up the ole woodstove. I migth have to pre-plan the work by lighting the woodstove before had but that ok as when its running I easily hit 75 degrees..
I moved the ''big'' electric heater to the smaller part of the shop and have a cloth door . So it can heat that one section quickly if needed..

Greetings from New Hampshire! I have a Morton building (36 ft. x 55ft x 16 ft.high), 2 insulated bay doors. When i purchased, i had them use their own insulation pkg, thermal breaks i thing every 8'9"(vs every 16"), heated is natural gas(modine heater/blower), when im not there thermo stat set at 50f. due to our water line, when working in there or puttering around, 58-60deg.,buling is very tite..unless you open overhead doors! Im happy with the Morton building, 10 years old, no issues.....

My shop is a 45 x 36 foot pole type with metal exterior and roof. I only heat heat 1/3 of it. I framed out the interior so I could put R19 in the walls, which are drywall finished. For the ceiling I used 1" Tuff-R 4x8 insulation sheets with the foil facing the interior. I blew R-50 fiberglass in on top of that. The slab has 2" foam under it. Shop is heated by propane 80k BTU ceiling unit. I keep the shop a 52 degrees when I'm not in it.

Note - the Tuff-R sheeting works great as a finished ceiling. I have the added benefit of the foil reflecting both heat and light back down into the work space.

Right around 70 (central forced air heat and air) I do have an auto thermostat that sets it back to 60 at night and back up at 8:00 am. But I am a woodworker, and keeping rust off all the cast iron, and the hardwoods dry is important to me. Yes well insulated, double pain windows, so not too hard on the power bill.

I am thinking of building an ICF garage/shop (R-22) and utilize insulated garage doors.

My question is what is a good ELECTRIC heater that can be mounted at ceiling level so that it can keep the garage at a nice 50F during winter?

Got this from Northern around 10 years ago. Still going strong, and heats up the 30X32 quickly.

Have an attached 24x24x12 garage and it's 98deg F inside my Carhartts.:D But now that I'm a retired old geezer, bumping 80, I bought a Mr Heater kerosene 75,000BTU but haven't used it this winter because it has been so mild. Anything that might freeze is moved to the basement (24x60) in the winter. It's hot in the summer but I'm used to it and don't do anything fancy summer or winter.
