How warm is your shop/garage?

My garage is only 19' square with a 10 x 14 attached shed that contains the oil fired forced hot air furnace. It is failrly well insulated with low ceilings. I keep it a 50 degrees F all the time and can have it as hot as I want, even with exhaust fans running. Have had it at 100 degrees when trying to quickly dry paint. Can maintain 75 even in single digits with a window open, two exhaust fans running and the furnace sucking outside air.

It is small but versatile.

I have a 28'x30' garage that is pretty well insulated. I keep it at about 45. I have a propane fired heater that hangs in the upper corner of the garage that is forced air and it will heat the place up in about 15 minutes to any temp you want.

My shop was built in the late 70's with the walls and ceiling insulated but the concrete floor is not. It has two 3'x4' or so windows that face south. The coldest I have ever seen it in there is about 32F but that was after a week of single digit night time temps and below freezing daytime temps. Not enough to actually freeze anything. Most of the time it is in the 40's. I have a small woodstove that brings it right up to a comfortable temperature. I use a small stand up fan to help push the warm air around.

I have a wood fired boiler (gasification type) that heats the house and shop. Radiant in slab heat is the way to heat a shop if you ever get a chance to build a new one. My old shop had a Modine type LP ceiling hung heater that loved the $propane$ and no matter how fast you could open and close a garage door, all the heat was lost. Also with a decent ceiling height (12' and up) all your heat is up against the ceiling. With the radiant slab, it doesen't matter. I set my slab temp at 55 and that makes the room about 62. My front 24 x 24 part of my garage is about 30-35 or about 10 deg. warmer than outside. The side walls are insulated but not the ceiling (yet). The back part 18 x 32 is heated with a fuel oil furnace. Side walls and ceiling are insulated. I keep 3 dogs out there and my tractor and have it set at 46 deg. If I am working out there I bump the T-stat up to 55-60.

My old rickety 2 car detached garage that I use for a shop is usually about 4 degrees warmer than outside. There's no insulation, and it has a tin roof. The roof leaks when it rains or when the snow melts. It beats sitting in the snow, though. I have a kerosene heater that I light when I go out there. That helps little... mostly because I can stand next to it when I get uncomfortable.

I have a little 16' X 12' work space planned in the near future. I plan to insulate it well and include some windows to take advantage of some natural green house effect.

mine detached shop stays between 80 some days a little cooler in the winter and up to 110 in the summer

20' x 24' attached to home on cement slab. Heated or cooled to desired temp by split mini system that I purchased online. Installed myself, had heating & cooling tech draw down system and connect electric. Very easy to install, 20 seer and efficient to run.

I (finally) finished insulating the attic floor in my 30X32 garage/shop right before the cold weather hit. The side and back walls have foam insulation against the concrete. The garage is built into a bank, so perhaps a bit more insulation there.
Insulated garage door as well.
The garage typically hovers right around 45 degrees. If its really cold out, in the teens or even single digits at night, the garage hasn't gone below 40. If I am working out there, I kick the electric heater on for a bit and it gets up to 50-55 pretty quickly, and holds it well. Good temp for me putzing around.

Anyone else? Just curious....and no wise cracks from the guys in Miami, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, etc..:laughing:

If it's staying around 45 degrees you did a good job of insulating it. I have a 3 1/2 car attached garage (insulated) and mine is like B P Flick. About 10 degrees above ambient.
