All, I just got back from the dealer this morning. Tested the DK40SE and also had my wife drive it around. Here is the offer given

DK40SE HST w/ "free" FEL

bolt on cutting edge

6' sundown tiller

6' kodiak rotory cutter

bucket hooks, loaded tires, delivery, grill guard, full of fuel

Quote was $28,733.

Dealer quoted $200 for the cutting edge which I feel should be included and also quoted me a $2500 tiller but would order me the comparible Kodiak tiller which is $500 dollars less. So there is $700 there to knock the overall price down to $28,000.

Does this sound close. Reminder I am in Maine.

No, that sounds way high to me. I think you should be down around $23-24K.

Slightly off topic here, but in 1977 I went to the only Ford tractor dealer in town (Houston) to buy a Ford 2000. Sure enough they had a shiny new 2000 on the showroom floor. As I was looking it over, a man came out of an office and walked past me. As he went by, I asked "Can you tell me the price of this tractor?" Without breaking stride, he said "If you have to ask, you can't afford it". As I stood there dumfounded, he disappeared down a hallway. I waited a few seconds thinking he was surely joking with me, but no one showed up. I picked up my jaw off the floor, then I went across town and bought a MF 235 writing a check for the full purchase price. I learned later that guy was the owner of the dealership.

I do alot of calling and by talking to them I find out who is shady and who is straight with me. I WILL NOT give them a competing dealers price, I may get them close but if I have to do that then I don't want to deal with them anyway. The best price is not always the best deal also. I'll drive 100 miles to get good service vs 1 mile to somebody that knows nothing about what they are selling. CJ

Similar thing happened to me at ironically, a ford dealership. I was truck shopping though. Ended up buying a gmc Sierra that cost about $4000 MORE then the ford truck I was looking at and got it for a whole lot better deal. Ford guy told me maybe I couldn't afford an F150 Lariat that maybe I should look at the xl trim level when I balked at his price of only $500 off the sticker price. Then he went to give me a speech about what he thought I could and couldnt afford. I maybe young(32) but I ain't poor or stupid. The GM dealer knocked off $9500 off the sticker btw.

Dingo,

You are a bit of a captive audience because of where you are, or at least, I suspect your dealer thinks so.

How far are you willing to travel? I like the Kioti line and if I still lived in TN I would have a DK55 by now. However, since I moved to Maine I have chosen to buy green but definitely pay a price to do so.

Still, it might be worth checking with Union Farm on the other orange tractors, or with the Deere dealer in Augustan ( the one in Fairfield is going to be expensive for sure). I don't know who the closest massey dealer is to you but the MF 1648 is a really nice machine.

It's worth a little comparison shopping.

I shopped around with 4 different brands...got an excel list put together with all things i needed in my tractor with associated prices. I listed apples to apples....same 40 HP range equipment.

Then i went and test drove all 4 brands.... so i could see how they felt. That was how i found the TYM 's rear remote levers were way inconvenient to use for me. The JD & Kubota tractors were sweet rides, but over my allowed budget ( and too much stuff was $$$ extra). I settled with the Kioti then started to shop around. I contacted 4 dealers within a days drive of me. All could get the tractor i wanted within 3-6 weeks, but no one had exactly what i wanted in stock. One dealer did have a 45 HP cab HST on the lot at a reduced price...actually $2,000 LESS than a new 40 HP. It had 15 hours on it. Was in factory cherry shape, but was on the lot for several months.

Needless to say that tractor is now in my shop.He also knocked off $$$ for an all cash deal... which i put towards front hydraulic ports, rimguard in rear tires and a 2nd rear remote. I thought it was a great deal...and he was glad to move the unit. Back last year all Kioti dealers HAD to move equipment or could lose their dealership...this craziness changed (thank goodness)... so dealers arnt in quite a frenzy to move units.

How much did he want for just the DK40 and free loader without all of the extras?
