How to use differential lock?

/ How to use differential lock? #21
I guess I should have phrased it that most compacts I have used have had it on the left. Actually I hardly ever use it, but when i have it has been on the left of the tractor I was using, and was just unsure how t workedbeing on the righr hand side.

Yes it will stay locked "if" you keep the tractor moving. Once you stop, it will/should pop out of lock.

Quick question for a total rookie. I notice that occasionally my differential would pop out without engaging the clutch, caused by hitting a small rut or something like that. I was going over some ruts and having traction problems so I engaged it and started going over them, it then popped out. Is that normal or could there be an issue or maybe I didn't have it engaged as well as I thought?

Generally, the diff lock is held engaged by "tension" in the drive train. As the gears and various bits bind against each other, things are held in place. When that tension is removed the diff lock will pop back out. Keeping power applied to the drive line keeps that tension, but stopping, hitting a sufficient rut to bounce things around, and both wheels gaining equal traction can all loosen up the binding to allow it to pop out.
