How does the box design aid in crowning the road? I thought it just made things flat.
By adjusting the side link on the 3ph the bb will tilt to cut on a bias...
After maintaining a half mile rocky gravel mountain road for over 40 years I have found that it is best to pitch steep inclines to one side or the other rather than putting a crown in the road...If the road is crowned in the center and drains to the sides...the natural action of traffic will eventually displace enough gravel to create enough of a rut to prevent storm water from running off and thus runs down the slope multiplying the erosion factor...and creating the washboard effect...
...on long steep hills the pitch can be changed from one side to the other with the use of a culvert to keep the angles down...when graded correctly this makes for an enjoyable ride and minimizes maintenance.
