Well, the couple I've had have kinked the wire so bad at the feed that it didn't seem like I could fix things without cutting the wire.

Rob
Yep, as Big Barn basically said... know when to cut your losses.

Dragoneggs why do you want a Powermtic ? I want to upgrade my 6" dewalt to a 8" something but I can't make up my mind . :confused3: I always wanted a Dj20 But they want a fortune for used beat up or half way across the country. The other thing is the Grizzly 490 is a exact clone of the Dj20 their is even a guy that bought replace ment parts for the grizzley and it fit on the Dj20. The 490 is 1250 $ . On the average they get 15 to 18 hundred for a good used Dj20. The powernmatic cost 2500 $ without the helical head 31 with. Years ago Powermatic quality was top notch no I have heard their ain't much different than all the others . Wish there was a place you could go and try out all jointers side by side and make a educated decision yourself.:drink:

Looking at the 60HH. I want the helical cutters. Looking at the similar also. My SIL has the PM 6in helical model and is extremely happy with it. I can get the 8in new (scratch/dent) for around $1650 vs. typical pricing of $2250.

Powermatic 16186K 6HH 8" Jointer, 2HP 1PH 23V, Helical Head | The Tool Nut

So price is driving this. What do you suggest that comes w/ helical coil? I know I can buy a spiral cutter for a Delta 8in in but the cutter itself is over $400. So the final price will be well over the PM

If I were to buy a 8 " jointer it would have to have the Parralogram design like the Dj 20 . PM PJ 882 is one but it cost 2800$ for 2hp amd 3100$ for 3hp both have helical head. The Grizzley Go495 x has a 3hp motor helical head , digital read out ,and over sized hand wheel adjustment plus it has the longest work surface. At 2400$ I think it the best 8" jointer for the money on the market. They have a tent or scratch and dent sale every year that you get free shipping and 10 % off . If you could get on of those for 2200$ that would be the sh-- If you don't know about the parallogram design watch the griz video explaining the difference in adjustment between that and a standard jointer. There are a few other good ones on youtube, I have yet to hear a bad review about that model. If I was to buy one that would be it . till then I will stick with my 6" delta and dream.:drink:

I have 3 jointers; an older Craftsman 6", son has it atm and may keep it- second one's the 6" Powermatic, came with a nice mobile base, works well - third one is a parallelogram

Shop Tools and Machinery at Grizzly.com

I've had that one for several years, no room (yet) to use it. Bought it to handle about 2400 BF of rough-sawn oak (still stickered, still rough :=)

Also have one of the Dewalt planers, and a Grizz 15" with the spiral head (that one's not even out of the shipping crate yet, what can I say - it's a sickness :ashamed:)

Maybe I'll find that round "tuit" when I get a couple more piles of "resources" moved out of my shop and into one of the 5 shipping containers  ... Steve

Yeah, being a smart-a** AND a Star Trek fan, I always find a bit different connotation to the phrase "Space - the final frontier" ... Steve
