How to tell year of tractor

Would the serial number on our 2720 tell us the year of the tractor? Our receipt has 2008 but I thought it was a 2009.

You may have purchased it in '09, but it may have been a left over '08. Try contactiong Deere and see if they can give you a date of manufacture if it's not on the data plate.

Yes. The SN would tell you the year of manufacture and that info should be availble just searching the net. It's widely available info.
It doesn't really matter much since years don't really mean much to tractor people. Model number yes, year of mfg not so much.

This comes up on a fairly regular basis and I can only point to and agree with the post by Sixdogs. I have no idea on the actual build date on any of the new tractors that I bought only that the were new. Tractors don't go by model year like trucks/cars/motorcycles etc.

And if you need to know fast, call any JD dealer and ask for the parts dept. These guys will know.

Just call your dealer and ask. They will run S.N.. Not a big deal.

I know this is an older thread but someone might find it helpful if it's correct.
If I understand it correctly the last 6 numbers in your mower ID is the serial number.
I wonder if anyone can find a mistake in this file.
