Hello all!

I used the search feature and didn't find the information I am looking for.

I have a bush hog 296 6' cutter.
I banged up my first set of blades so I just installed a new set. I'd now like to clean up the edges of these and put them on the shelf for the next cycle. I plan to use a grinder with a flapper wheel to clean up the edge.

How do I balance these afterwards? what will the +/- tolerance need to be within to keep from shaking the shredder to pieces.

I know the blades are not balanced now. a chunk of 3/8" chain helped to prove that..... it made a mess of the chain!!

Thanks in advnace.

We will only touch up blades on our batwings once then we scrap them. To replace the 6 blades is just under $400 and we get roughly 200-300 hrs out of a set

For balancing this method leaves a bit to be desired but it would be the best you could do. First measure each blade from the center of the bolt hole to the farside tip of the blade. If they are within a 1/16" then you are good. Second, weigh each blade on the best scale you can find. Something with the accuracy of a butcher's scale would work; a bathroom scale would not. Equalize the weight of the blades by grinding the heavier to match the lighter. Remove the material lightly and equally along the non-cutting length of the heavy blade. If for some reason the blades were more than a 1/16" different, I would weigh them first before proceeding. You then have some thinking to do before proceeding.
