That ids great I was concerned the gear would drop and not allow you to get the new axle popped in but hey it was like a lot of my worries they never come about.
Back in December I bought a Kwikway backhoe that I never got around to installing due to all the snow. I guess they had some deal with Cub Cadet as it came with HD axles for my tractor. The CC service manual has a chapter assigned to replacing the axles if the tractor is to be fitted with a backhoe. They're the same diameter but they must be beefier somehow.

Different steel.... chromoly 4130 or something.
Fascinating that there are different axle shafts as part of the design process. Really speaks to what they went through to lower the price point.
I think this only applied to some of the first models. Seems like I saw somewhere that it applied to certain serial numbers. Mine is an early 2004. Its interesting that Cub never came thru with a backhoe for this model. When it was first introduced a backhoe was listed as one of the future attachments. Maybe they realized that the axles weren't up to the task. They also started having a lot of tranny problems.
