What would I use to cut bamboo?, 1/4 acre of it to be exact, I never had any dealing with brush cutting this stuff so I'm not sure this is even an option...
I've not seen the patch of bamboo yet, but what I have seen in the past is that this stuff grows in thick tall stalks, I'm not sure of what to use to cut it, I have used a machete to cut a couple of stalk down to use as cane poles, although I certainly wouldn't hand cut 1/4 acre of this stuff like that, what would you use?
Thanks

...do you want to get rid of it?
Good luck with that :D a Friend would like to get rid of some... mowing it just made the bamboo get mad and sprout even more...

I'm really not sure how he wants it removed, I am supposed to meet with the man tomorrow and go over what he wants, if I'm thinking correctly doesn't most of this stuff grow in marshy area's? if this is the case My 2 wd tractor is not the tool, and he might have plans for me trying to push it up by the roots, But just in case he wanted it cut I is reason I brought the question to you folks.... what method to use to cut it? would a sickle cutting blade be be the tool? or would it be large enough to cut through the stalks?

Ah, you are cutting it for someone else... Find out what his plans are. Chemicals are going to be one of the better ways to get rid of it. It will also take a couple of years...

Bamboo can be on dry land so 2wd is not out of the question but mowing it is NOT a good option unless he's looking for a thicker stand of it.

From what I read, napalm could work if the bamboo is not well established

I asked my wife, a Master Gardener. Bamboo roots will be about 18" deep. They travel like Bermuda grass. It will die back if you can cut it off from water. If you just cut it, you're not doing anything to the root structure; it will come back with a vengeance.

Best would be check in with your local Ag Extension office for practical advise in your specific area and soils. The could recommend proper tillage, or chemical application(or both?).

Careful of bamboo splinters. They are sharp and will go right through tires, dog feet, eyes, etc. Wear goggles and put a 12" saw blade on your gas powered weed whacker.

Bamboo is a grass. Glyphosate will kill it out.
