How to identify car owner by license plate?

Some one charge tires to Dad's account at the tire shop... only had a license and vehicle description.

Had to go to DMV and fill out a request and pay a fee where the person also gets all your information as requester...

No idea if this still works but it took time and money...

Two weeks later he learned from the DMV it was a contractor doing work for the business... without the plate never would have been able to track it down.

Called up the guy and said just deducted from what you owe me...

The contractor did ask Dad where to get tires and Dad told him where to go and said mention my name and they will take good care of you... Dad never thinking he would be billed!

I almost had a Doctors car towed... he was off at a conference and had asked the Administrator if he could leave the car for 5 days...

No one told me and our policy is to tow cars after so many days...

The tow truck arrived and called it in to make sure it was not stolen and I heard over the radio the registered owner's name and city... oh crap.

Anyway, the tow guy was super busy that day and said he would let it go...

I'm glad to see im not the only one that spells vaccine that way.

A person shouldn't call himself smart if he can't think of more than one way to spell a word. :D

The reason I posed the title question in the original post is that my brother, had seen a truck that he didn't recognize on the property. We didn't want to call law enforcement out because they usually want us to press charges if they catch some body.

Our farm road is 1-1/2 miles off the main road and dead ends at our place. There are several other farms off the road, but you have to be intentional to get to our place. At least 10 rather obvious NO TRESPASSING signs along the way.

Every Spring, after the farm was plowed, we used to get folks walking around in the field. Many folks. Especially on weekends. They said they are looking for arrowheads. Maybe they are. But —- why do you think you can come on private property, past no trespassing signs looking for anything?

It got to where if I called the sheriff it would be 3x day. It was also a pain to get the 4 wheeler to drive to the pasture and constantly chase these folks away.

Sometimes we’d take the opportunity to target shoot. My son and I can make a racket when we shoot. That worked pretty good - but not 100%.

Well - this finally all stopped after we went to no till for the beans!!!

I never saw anyone find any arrowheads but my son found a few. About 3 inches tall.

If the arrowheads are on your property, they're your arrowheads.

Haha !

I worked a case several years ago where a guy owned some property on a highway and one day found a Jeep parked on the shoulder of the highway in front of his house.

After about 2 days he went out and pulled the Jeep around behind the house. Kept it there for over a year, during which he had done some mechanical work on it.

He cooked up a scheme with the complicity of the local police chief to hold a private auction and “sell” the Jeep for “storage” charges. Had posted a notice in the local paper and everything. Supposedly had the local police chief run the vin through TCIC/NCIC and got “no record”. That would normally mean it wasn’t reported stolen anywhere.

Only thing is that wasn’t legitimate. All records of the theft from another state were there. They blamed a “tech” problem gave them a false negative report.

So, he had held this set up lien sale and sold it to a buddy. Buddy supposedly put some work into it. But when he went to get the title the NCIC “stolen notice” popped up. Jeep was owned by an insurance company as the result of a theft claim out of another state.

Bottom line, we were hired to recover the Jeep through a property hearing in Justice Court and obtain the Jeep and sell it for the insurance company. The so-called “innocent purchaser” hired a local lawyer to claim he had bought the vehicle without being aware of the theft, blah-blah. Judge awarded the Jeep to the insurance company and we took it.

Just because it’s on your property doesn’t automatically make it yours when the title is properly recorded in someone elses name.
