Everyone has done it... I also always want to get in the field too quickly .. Good thing my dad keep in in check ... ''Its too early if you go in now you are going to struggle with these things and this is going to happen... ask me why I know'' he told me once or twice.

I live in the same area as you s for, and other than planting a plum tree, I haven’t touched my raised bed garden yet. It’s just too cold and muddy. Better weather will make the job easier and less frustrating.

Forgive me if you already know this, but just a couple of tips on what worked well for me.

recycled garden mix only for soil, dirt is not the best medium.

fill bottom of beds with limbs, leaves lawn cuttings (w/o chemicals)
then your compost. It’s too expensive to only use the garden mix alone.

Cedar chips or gravel around the area, cuts down on weeds and mud.

good luck with your project, it will be worth it.
