How to get rid of moles without doing anything!

When we moved here 6 years ago, we had moles galore. I started trapping. Probably trapped nearly 20 since then. I rarely see them anymore, typically in the spring when they mate, they move a lot and I trap a couple. I don't use insecticides on the lawn, but the trapping seemed to work

We don't use insecticide on our lawn due to our tortoise. He's a grazer. 🐢

moles are carnivores (grubs) ground squirrels and voles are herbivores. Killing grubs won't phase them a bit. (Though I would not discount the effects of the chemical. Who knows?)

Do you use kill traps or are you trapping to relocate?

A previous neighbor had a 4-wheeler. He'd dig up a fresh hole, and shove the exhaust down the hole for a minute or two. Apparently it was pretty good at killing the colonies.

Oh, one other thing. The rattler is the only poisonous snake around here, and they're pretty rare.

We mostly have garter snakes and gopher snakes (called bull snakes elsewhere). They're completely harmless.

Anyway, if I see a gopher snake, I try to protect it (move it off of roads and shoulders). I try not to do anything to harm them.

I figure every little bit helps, and there must be a reason they're called gopher snakes around here.

I wonder if that would work on pocket gophers. I'm going to call the local lawn care people. My back yard looks like an impact area for the Army's Light Infantry.
I need something for skunks and racoons now

Their natural predators include red foxes, bobcats, great horned owls, pumas, wolves, badgers, and red-tailed hawks.

Brush piles and nesting boxes?

All the best,

Peter

Traps. Lots of traps. I have a commercial gopher trapping business do maintenance on my place for $40/month (after initial treatment fees). They set traps at any mound they find and check them every 3 days.
I can't help but wonder how they make any money at all, checking traps every 3 days, and only charging you $40 a month?
